Projects

Earrings 2.jpg
I had all kinds of projects I thought I might work on while I was on maternity leave, I mean I knew taking care of the baby would take up most of my time, but surely there would be plenty left over for fun projects, right? Well, of course any experienced mom knows that I haven't done half the things I wanted to do, but I don't mind at all. I have done quite a bit of reading and worked on a few small projects, sewing burp cloths, etc. I also made some earrings and a necklace for my mom for her birthday (I was about a month late with the gift, but better late than never!) These were fun to make, I used some Tiger Eye beads that came from my grandpa's stock, he was a jeweler, and even though my skills are still pretty basic I was pretty happy with how they turned out. It was fun making the packaging too. I used some paper that I bought for Truett's as-yet-unstarted scrapbook.

My big, exciting news for this morning is that Truett slept for 8 hours last night!!! He fussed once and I had to resettle him, but other than that he slept from about 8:30 last night to about 4:30 this morning. Whoo Hoo! What a way to celebrate his 2 month birthday. It was also nice to get the extra sleep since I have a cold and feel like crap. It also totally makes up for the 3 very interrupted nights we had this week while we were at my grandma's house.

Cloth diapers

Today is going to be the first time to use cloth diapers. I know with our life style right now that we will not be able to use cloth diapers full time, but my thinking is that whenever we use one we are saving money, keeping one more disposable out of the landfill and down the road will hopefully have an easier time potty training (because the cloth diapers are way more uncomfortable for the baby when they are wet). I didn't want to attempt cloth diapers when he was brand new because I wasn't sure how it would go and whether or not it would be overwhelming to have the extra loads of laundry, plus we got so many newborn sized diapers as gifts that we weren't going to need to buy diapers anyway. Actually, we haven't had to buy a single diaper yet-thanks to so many of our friends and family that gave us diapers as gifts. And since I used gift money to buy all the diapers and the covers-we haven't spent any of our own money on cloth diapers either. If anyone out there has tips for washing/using cloth diapers, etc. I would appreciate it. I have 2 of these pants (I am using cloth diapers inside instead of the disposable inserts this site sells) and 2 of these pants. I know I will probably end up needing more than 4 pairs of pants, but I wanted to try a couple first and see what I liked about the different styles.
