The Decemberists, Again

We went to see the Decemberists again last night, I love, love, love seeing them in concert!! Last night was a bit different since we saw them at Chastain Park, an outdoor amphitheater style venue. I think we decided that Chastain is great if it isn't the first time you are seeing a band live, being outside makes the music a little harder to hear so you miss a little bit. The place is really cool though, you can bring in a picnic, or get food there. They have a couple of catering options, if you want to order food, and you can bring in your own alcohol. We had lawn seats so we were waaaaaaay in the back, but we brought binoculars with us and it wasn't too bad. They were playing with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, so they only really played songs that adapted well to having a full orchestra (although they did a couple by themselves). It was pretty cool to hear the orchestra with the band, they played the whole "Tain" (25 min long), and that fit really well with the orchestra. I was excited because once again they did the Mariner's Revenge for an encore and it is such a fun song to hear live. Last night was Clarence's (long story, but that is the baby's nickname for now) second Decemberists concert. However, as the first was right before I found out I was pregnant and before he/she even had ears, I am not sure if that one counted.

A funny thing happened last night at the concert. I was watching the people walk by, and I noticed one guy had on a shirt that said "catacombs" on the front. I nudged Chris to get his attention and show him the shirt too. As we were debating the likelihood of it being the "real Catacombs" the guy turned around and the back of the shirt had a drawing of a naked man in a box with the words underneath saying "naked man in a box." Neither of us had seen that particular shirt before, but the combination of the word Catacombs and a picture of a naked man clinched it in our minds. Chris went up and introduced himself to the guy and his friend, and it turns out this guy was at Chris' bachelor party! I guess it was one of those small world moments or something.

Busy, Busy, Busy

Whew, I feel like I can draw a breath for the first time in weeks. We have been so incredibly busy, traveling or having company every weekend for the past couple of months. It has all been a lot of fun, but I need a break! It doesn't help that I have been so tired in the evenings during the week that I haven't gotten much accomplished when we are home. Our house is starting to show signs of neglect, all we have managed in the last few weeks is the most basic cleaning and that doesn't cut it for very long. I have several projects I want to start, but I just haven't had the energy or time. Hopefully we will have several weekends in a row at home that we can use to catch up on our regular lives.

This past weekend we were in Chattanooga for Lizzie's 4th birthday, that was lots of fun. I am glad that we live close enough to make birthdays and other special events. I think Jennifer is going to post some pictures later, our digital camera is broken so I don't have any to share. We got to see lots of friends while we were there this time, I love just getting some hang out time with old friends.

The weekend before that we took a mini vacation and went to North Carolina. We spent the weekend with the Hancocks, and it was so great to see them and spend time together. Between us we had 5 dogs (for those of you that remember him, we are taking care of Oscar while my in-laws are on vacation), so that was interesting! I took some (hopefully) cute pictures of the dogs, but I will have to wait to finish my roll of film to see how they turned out. We also had some nice time to our selves, and as a bonus got to spend a day with my family at their cabin. One of my cousins from Canada was passing through with his wife, and it was really awesome to see them since we live so far apart.

This kind of turned into a list of our most recent trips, but I wrote lots of more meaningful blog entries in my head over the past few weeks as I think about getting ready for our baby, but by the time I get home from work I am tapped out mentally and can't face spending time typing on the computer. I need a break from all the fun in my life!! This weekend is the last busy weekend for a while, but at least we will be home without company.
