Bathroom project

Chris mirror.jpg We made a ton of progress on the bathroom project, even though I didn't think we would ever get it done this time yesterday. THe whole project has seemed to be plagued with set backs. We haven't found the shower curtain rod that we wanted, and I think we are going to have to order it from somewhere, and just use the old plastic one until it comes. Yesterday we went to the paint store to get the blue paint, and Chris painted the whole bathroom, but we both think it is way too bright. We may end up repainting in a few weeks, but we wanted to get it as finished as possible and look at it for a few days before deciding. The light fixture was an ugly, cheap, shiny, brass colored piece of metal, and as much as we hated it, we decided not to replace it right now. Instead I carefully spray painted it with a hammered metail spray paint--and then ran over it with my car smashing it flat. Plus the shower curtain was not turning out like I wanted it to. Sigh. However, it looks like we are close to
painted bathroom.jpg finishing, and I really like the way it is turning out! We went to Ikea today and got a mirror and a cabinet, and we got some towel bars from Home Depot (this bathroom has had zero towel bars since we moved in a year and a half ago). We also found some great towels for a great price at Ross. I think it is going to look great! I also have a new plan for the shower curtain that I think will solve the problem I was having yesterday. I am going to try to get it finished this week while Chris is out of town. He has to go to Illinois for training for his job all next week and I think I can manage finishing the shower curtain and cleaning the house for the Gosey's visit while he is gone.

I am still not happy with the way my blog looks right now. In fact, I kind of started over, I figured white was better than the mess I had made with it. It may look like this for a while, I am not sure when I will have time to sit down and try to figure it out!

Mirror and table

Mirror and table

For Christmas he made us this console table to put in our entry area, and surprised me for my birthday this year with the mirror. He had said he would make one for us eventually, and asked me what I wanted it to look like, but I had no idea he would make it so soon! I think it really makes our house look nice. Plus, it has the added benefits of perfectly covering all the soot marks from the candle holder we use to have hanging in this area!

We have big plans to work on redoing our guest bathroom this weekend. We wanted to make it look nice before the Gosey's come next weekend, but now that Chris found out he has to go out of town all next week, I am not sure how much we will get done. I am going to attempt to sew the shower curtain, which will be my biggest solo sewing project ever! I am a little nervous, but it is really just sewing two rectangles together to make a bigger rectangle, and then sewing button holes at the top, right?

Last night

The Decemberist concert last night was so great! We saw them just last October, and they haven't had a new album since then, so I was wondering if it was going to be the same concert as the last time we saw them (which would have been just fine) but they changed it up enough that it was totally awesome. As an encore they played the entire 20 minute Tain album. But the high point of the whole show is when they played The Mariner's Revenge!! Last time we saw them they said that they were a little bored of that song and wouldn't be playing for quite some time, so it was a very pleasant surprise when they started in on it. When they got to the climax of the song, two guys in a whale costume came out on stage and "ate" all the band members-it was hilarious! The whale costume was awesome, glowing red eyes and bloody teeth. I think this is my favorite band right now, they are so tight and their music is so awesome but they are also lots of fun to see in concert because they invite audience participation. The band really seems like they are having so much fun up there, you can't help but have fun right along with them. If you aren't familiar with their music, I highly recommend that you check them out!

Last night my brother and his girlfriend came down from Boone, NC (where they go to school) in order to spend Easter weekend with us. We are about to head out to eat breakfast at Huey's (yes Jennifer, we are driving 30-45 minutes just for breakfast) and do a little running around. They won't have to leave until Monday morning, and I am excited about the prospect of two whole days to hang out!

My personality-sort of

This was a fun little test, although I don't agree with some of the results. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am not a solitary person (just ask my husband, who happens to be someone who loves solitude :))! Also, the "vice" picture is supposed to represent worrying, not nail biting. I am a worrier, but I don't really have problems with nail biting, I just realized that the picture wasn't very clear.

Birthday fun

birthday hat.jpg
I have had a great birthday this year, and it is extending way past the actual day. It started the weekend before last when we met my family in Boone, NC to hang out with my brother for the weekend. It was so good to see my family, and we stayed at a cute little hotel. My family threw me a surprise birthday party on Saturday night, Allison made me an awesome birthday cake and my dad gave me a beautiful mirror to hang over the console table he made us for Christmas. It was lots of fun! We got to go to Chattanooga this past weekend for Julia’s birthday, which was just part of the fun this weekend. I met Julia for the first time 2 years ago on my birthday when she was 3 days old, that was an awesome birthday present that year. Last night Chris surprised me with one of Katie K’s paintings, and I love it! It is such a nice bright spot of color in our room. I have it hanging over my dresser right now, and it really brightens up that wall. Tonight we are making tacos and having a friend over that shares my birthday, his wife had to go out of town so he is by himself, and I don’t mind sharing! And then on Friday we are going to a Decemberist’s concert as a final birthday treat. We went to a concert of their’s last fall, and I am so excited about seeing them again. We will also get to have a family party with my in-laws sometime later this month, Nathan and I share birthday months and we usually have a joint party. I had my film camera at all these events, so I won’t have pictures for a few days. I have switched back to my film camera recently because I feel like it takes better indoors pictures than our digital. The picture here is from lunch out with my teammates at work. They took me out to a Mexican place today, and it turns out that this place not only comes and sings for your birthday but brings you your very own birthday sombrero! It was actually a little annoying, they spun it on my head as they were singing, which did wonders for my hair and made my head itch. I got to keep the hat though, so I guess that is some sort of compensation. I recently found out that I share a birthday with Emmylou Harris, which is kind of fun!
